Areas to check
- the expert's competence;
- input data;
- description of the object;
- methodology;
- reasoning behind the conclusion;
- completeness of answers;
- contradictions and omissions.
Link the comment to the answer derived from the study
The check covers not only presentation but also the sequence: question, object, input data, method, observation, conclusion. Each shortcoming must be accompanied by an explanation of which answer it affects and why. A formal breach without an analysis of its consequences does not automatically justify rejecting the entire report.
What a review cannot substitute for
A party's disagreement with the result is not a substantiation based on specialist knowledge. Their own assumption about the cause or cost does not replace a repeat study either. If a new inspection, test or calculation is required, its purpose and materials must be described separately.
- Check that the document and appendices are complete.
- Identify material initial assumptions.
- Assess whether the method is appropriate for the specific task.
- Record any data that cannot be verified.
The outcome of a review must be verifiable using the same materials. It does not predetermine the court's assessment of the evidence or guarantee that a new examination will be ordered.
